Things to Remember When Looking for Caravan Insurance

With the caravan holiday season fully underway and with more and more people going away in caravans every year both in the UK and on the continent it is worth remembering that caravans, like cars and homes, are expensive items that are subject to theft and damage like anything else. Taking out caravan insurance is always worth doing in the same way that you would take out home insurance or holiday insurance. So if you are thinking about getting caravan insurance, here are some of the things you should look out for:

Firstly, decide whether you are staying in your own country or heading off around Europe for your holiday. If you are unlikely to be going around Europe then you will save money by opting for a policy that does not include European cover. This will save you money and if you decide to take a trip around Europe you can always add on coverage later.

Secondly, remember that if you keep your caravan in tip-top condition you will save yourself money. In the same way that car insurance policies come with no claims discounts, so do caravan insurance policies, often reducing your premium by up to 50%.

One way to do this is to add decent security devices, such as trackers or wheel locking equipment. If you want to keep the caravan at your home, add a security post. Alternatively, secure it at a CaSSOA site over winter and you will see your premiums reduced by up to 25%.

Lastly, remember that you can insure your awning too. If you have just spent out on a decent protective awning for the caravan and it is in excellent condition then it might be worth doing this. If on the other hand it is an old one that is a bit weathered then it will probably not be worth doing.

Remember too, when it comes to searching for insurance, don’t take the first policy you see. Spend a few hours doing your research and it will pay dividends. If you’re looking in the high street then try any of the specialist financial and insurance companies out there. These all offer a huge variety of services from financial advice to contractor tax and insurance packages to house, boat and car insurance and specialist caravan insurance policies.

However, the internet is probably your best bet as there are so many companies now offering free quotes online that you can do most of your research from the comfort of your own home.
